All veterans and active duty military personnel are welcome to attend our Fifth Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 11th. Allen Park High School will honor our country’s veterans beginning at 7:30 AM with a flag raising ceremony outside near the main (north) entrance to the school (weather permitting). At 12:15 p.m., veterans and students will gather in the Allen Park Center for the Arts for the formal ceremonies. Following the conclusion of the ceremonies at 2:35 p.m., veterans are invited to enjoy some refreshments in the cafeteria and mingle with some of our students. Veterans are also invited into the classrooms in the morning to speak with our students about their experiences, if they would like to do so. Please choose whichever activities fit into your schedule the most conveniently.
Last year, we were joined by historian and author John Wukovits. He made a presentation to many of our students about the importance of remembering veteran contributions to our country. Not only is Mr. Wukovits a noted historian and author of several books, he has also been featured on the History Channel, on Book TV, and has written numerous articles about history for various magazines. His books have been praised by such well-known people as Herman Wouk and Oliver North. We thank him for his wonderful presentation and hope that he will join us as a guest this year, and in the future. For more information on Mr. Wukowits, see his web-site: http://www.johnwukovits.com/john_wukovits/Home.html
Our past Veterans Day celebrations proved that a celebration of this type is a powerful way to help veterans and students connect. It is also important for our students to learn about those who served our country and to appreciate the sacrifices that all veterans have made. Many of our students were deeply affected by the veterans and their stories in the past.
We would like to honor all local veterans and active military personnel, so we would like some basic information about those who will be coming. Please inform us of the following:
